How to Start a Beat Selling Business Tomorrow
Today I wanted to speak on the truth behind selling beats online and how the market is currently. I feel like most people have a misinterpretation of selling beats online and don’t know what they’re getting into. While it is definitely harder than you might imagine it being, the fact is that it is possible and it’s not out of reach for normal people like you and me.
The first and most important rule to selling beats is simple. Get ready to work your ass off. If you are not already working harder than the competition, then you will immediately find that you will not go far in this mystical land of selling beats. While it may seem mysterious and impossible to figure out, the truth is that just working hard is one big part of running a small business that most people miss.
If you’re starting out you’ll need at minimum 20 good, strong beats to get started. However in my case I would never start a paid campaign before I had at least 40 beats ready to go. Currently I’m getting myself prepared for a new beat selling campaign which I’ve been working on for a while now. I have cash set aside for promoting on big websites such as Soundcloud and Soundclick. But I won’t spend a dime until I know I can actually make my money back.
Even though I have a team of producers, I want to personally have 20 beats posted of my own beats before I get started. Then add another 10 beats from each of my top producers on Beats4Legends. This is how I want to start as it is the same way I’ve started in the past. Before I start spending big on promotions I need to first have all my ducks in a row, which means plenty of beats ready to sell and advertising money ready to spend.
It’s tough coming up with enough beats to get going as I have other projects and clients to work for in the meantime. But you have to work extra hard in order to get started if you want to be successful. Pricing your beats correctly also becomes important, as well as how you’ve designed your support structure. Customer support will make or break your business without exception. You need to respond fast, fulfill orders quickly and overall make sure you’re ready to take on the business before going forward with advertising.
